Troubleshooting and FAQ

Chapter 11 of 11

Quick fixes for the most common questions: missing bars, SBMM switched off, empty numbers, rate limits and how to report a bug.

Nothing appears on Google

  1. 1Check that SBMM is ON. If the toolbar icon shows an "OFF" badge, click the icon and press the power button in the popup header until it says ON.
  2. 2Open the Settings tab in the popup and check that the feature you miss is switched on, for example "Result metrics bar", "SERP sidebar" or the search engine you are using.
  3. 3Reload the Google page with Ctrl + R (Cmd + R on Mac). Tabs that were open before you installed the extension need one reload.
  4. 4Open chrome://extensions and check that SBMM is enabled there.
  5. 5Make sure you are on a normal Google results page (google.com/search or your country version), not Google Images or Shopping.
  6. 6Turn off other SEO extensions for a moment. Two extensions changing the same page can get in each other's way.

Numbers show "…" for a long time

"…" means the number is being looked up live. Most fill in within 10 to 40 seconds. You do not need to reload, the bar updates by itself.

If it is still "…" after a minute, reload the page once. If a number then shows a dash, there is simply no data for that site yet.

A dash instead of a number

A dash means no data is available for that metric. This is common for brand new websites, very small sites, and some country domains where registration dates are not published.

"Too many searches" or signals paused

To keep the service free and fast for everyone, there is a fair-use limit on lookups. If you search very quickly, the sidebar may say "Too many searches, try again in a few minutes". Wait a few minutes and search again.

If it says the extension is paused, the service is under maintenance. It comes back by itself.

The top bar covers part of a website

The bar pushes most sites down, but a few sites with unusual layouts can end up under it. Click the small arrow under the bar to hide it on all sites, or turn "Top bar" off in the popup Settings tab.

Business rows or the audit do not load

First check that "Business rows on Maps" and "Business rows in Google results" are on in the popup Settings tab.

Business data is read from Google Maps by your own browser. If Google asks you to prove you are not a robot, or you are offline, the rows stay empty. Solve the check on Google, wait a few minutes, then reload.

The audit reads the business website directly. If a website blocks visitors or is offline, its website checks show as "not checked" instead of failing.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

Yes, it is free and no account is needed. Accounts on this website are optional and are used for sending feedback and following up on your reports.

How to report a bug or ask for a feature
