The top bar, cell by cell

Chapter 15 of 25

A slim bar at the top of every website with the numbers that matter for that site and page. Here is what each cell means.

Where it shows

The bar sits at the top of the websites you visit, with numbers on the left and tools on the right. It does not show on Google Maps or Etsy, which have their own SBMM rows.

Click the small arrow under the bar to hide it. It stays hidden on every site until you open it again, and while it is hidden it looks nothing up.

Use the Top bar button in the popup header to turn it off completely. On smaller windows some cells step aside to make room, starting with Age, Pages, URLs Indexed and Rank.

DR, DA and SS

DR (Domain Rating) and DA (Domain Authority) are two strength scores from 0 to 100 for the whole website, based on the links pointing to it. They come from different third-party SEO data providers, so they often differ.

SS (Spam Score) is the estimated spam risk in percent. Lower is better.

SEO, AEO and GEO

SEO is the score from the On-Page and Technical checks for this page. AEO and GEO show how ready this page is for answer engines and generative search.

They fill in by themselves a few seconds after the page opens, in the tab you are looking at. Unlike DR and DA, they change from page to page on the same site.

The popup can use a primary keyword and the bar does not, so the popup score may differ a little.

Traffic, KWs, RD and BL

Traffic is the estimated number of visits per month. KWs is how many keywords the site ranks for. RD (Referring Domains) is how many different websites link to it. BL (Backlinks) is the total number of links.

All four are estimates for the whole site, not this one page.

From Traffic to Updated.

Age, Pages, URLs Indexed and Rank

Age is how long the domain has been registered.

Pages is how many pages were found in the site's sitemap. It may show Hover at first: move the mouse over the bar and it fills in. A dash means no sitemap was found. A plus sign means there are at least that many.

URLs Indexed shows Check until you click it. A click opens a Google search for the site in a background tab and reads the count. Nothing is sent until you click.

Rank is the estimated world rank of the website by visits. A smaller number means a bigger site.

Words and Updated

Words counts the main article on this page and leaves out menus, sidebars and the footer. It helps you compare the length of pages that rank.

Updated says when this page was last changed or published. A dash means the page gives no date.

CMS and Monetized

CMS names the system or site builder the site runs on. It says Custom when no known system shows. The Detector tab in the popup has the full list.

Monetized names the ad networks the site uses, or None if no sign of ads was found. It is a quick way to see how a site in your niche earns.

Quick Check buttons

The two buttons after Monetized open a free traffic or backlink checker from a third-party SEO website in a new tab, with this site filled in. That website may ask you to solve a captcha first.

Nofollow switch

Click Nofollow to outline every nofollow, sponsored and ugc link on the page with a dashed red box. The cell then shows ON and the number of those links.

It stays on as you move to other sites until you click it again. It is handy for checking link swaps and guest posts.
