How the checker scores a title and tags
The checker runs the same title, tag and description checks as our listing audit, on the text you type. Each check passes, warns or fails, and the points add up to a score out of 100. A score of 90 or more is an A, 75 or more a B, 60 or more a C and 45 or more a D. Anything lower is an F. The description is only scored when you add one.

Etsy title best practices
Etsy allows up to 140 characters. Start with what the item is, in the words a buyer would search, then add the most useful details: the main material or style, a key feature and who it is for. Shoppers on phones see only the start of a title, so the first few words matter most.
Write for people. Use each word once or twice at most, keep to a few short phrases instead of a long comma-separated list, and skip emoji, ALL CAPS and repeated symbols. Put extra search phrases in your tags instead.
Etsy tag best practices
Every listing gets 13 tags of up to 20 characters. Use all of them, and make each one a phrase a buyer would type, such as "silver stacking ring" rather than "ring". Etsy treats plurals and the same words in a different order as one search, so "wallet" and "wallets" waste a tag.
Repeat your strongest two or three tags as phrases in the title, and use the rest for other ways people search: style, occasion, recipient and use. To see how many listings compete for a tag and how often it is searched, open it in the Etsy keyword tool.
Questions about Etsy titles and tags
Limits, best practices and how the checker works.
Etsy allows up to 140 characters in a listing title. Shoppers see the first part of the title most, in search results and on phones, so put the words that say what the item is at the start. A clear title of 50 to 140 characters gives search enough words to match without reading like a list.
Each listing can have 13 tags of up to 20 characters each. A tag can use letters, numbers, spaces, hyphens and apostrophes. Use all 13: every tag is another search your listing can show up for.
Phrases. A multi-word tag such as "silver stacking ring" matches what buyers type and faces less competition than a single word like "ring". Try to use most of the 20 characters in each tag.
No. Etsy search treats plurals and the same words in a different order as the same search, so "wallet" and "wallets" in two tags waste one of your 13. Use the spare tag for a different phrase.
Yes, for your most important phrases. When a phrase is in both the title and a tag, it is a strong signal that the listing matches that search. Use your best three or so tags as phrases in the title, and keep other ideas in the tags only.
Repeating the same word three or more times does not make a listing rank for it more, and it makes the title hard to read. Use each word once or twice and put other phrases in your tags.
