How each Etsy fee works
- Listing fee
- 0.20 USD for each listing, charged in your currency when you publish it. A listing lasts four months or until it sells. Each renewal, whether automatic after four months, after a sale when you have more in stock, or by hand, charges another listing fee.
- Transaction fee
- 6.5% of the order total: the item price plus the shipping you charge, after any discount. Sales tax is not included.
- Payment processing fee
- A percentage of the full amount the buyer pays, including shipping and sales tax, plus a small fixed fee per order. The rate depends on your seller country. In the United States it is 3% + 0.25 USD.
- Regulatory operating fee
- Sellers in some countries pay this extra percentage of the order total. The calculator adds it when your country has one.
- Offsite Ads fee
- Only on orders that came from an Etsy ad on another website: 15% of the order total, or 12% for shops that are required to take part. It is capped at 100 USD per order.
- VAT on fees
- Where VAT applies to digital services, such as the UK and EU countries, Etsy may add VAT to the fees above.
A worked example
A seller in the United States sells an item for 25 USD and charges 5 USD shipping. There is no discount, no sales tax and the order did not come from Offsite Ads.
| Listing fee | 0.20 USD |
|---|---|
| Transaction fee: 6.5% × (25 + 5) | 1.95 USD |
| Payment processing: 3% × 30 + 0.25 | 1.15 USD |
| Total Etsy fees | 3.30 USD |
| Materials 6 + packaging and postage 5 | 11.00 USD |
| Profit: 30 - 3.30 - 11 | 15.70 USD (52.3% margin) |
If the same order came from Offsite Ads at 15%, another 4.50 USD would go in fees and the profit would drop to 11.20 USD.
Questions about Etsy fees
Short answers about what Etsy charges and how this calculator works it out.
For a seller in the United States with no Offsite Ads sale, Etsy usually takes a 0.20 USD listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping, and a payment processing fee of 3% plus 0.25 USD on the total the buyer pays. On a 25 USD item with 5 USD shipping that adds up to 3.30 USD.
Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee is charged on the item price plus the shipping you charge (after any discount), and payment processing is charged on the full amount the buyer pays, which includes shipping and sales tax.
If a buyer clicks an Etsy ad on another website and then buys from your shop, Etsy charges an Offsite Ads fee on that order: 15% for shops that can opt out, or 12% for shops that are required to take part. The fee is capped at 100 USD per order and is only charged on sales that came from those ads.
Etsy sets the processing rate and fixed fee by the country of your bank account, and charges it in your currency. Pick your seller country in the calculator to use its rate.
Sellers in some countries pay an extra regulatory operating fee, a small percentage of the order total. Sellers in places that charge VAT on digital services, such as the UK and EU countries, may also pay VAT on their Etsy fees. The calculator adds both when your country has them.
They follow Etsy's published fee rules and are a close estimate. Etsy can change fees, currency conversion can move amounts slightly, and your Payment account shows the exact fees for each order.
